Rust belt pop with a guitar in each hand. Joni Mitchell, Pavement and Todd Rundgren got into a van in Cleveland and came out the other side as something the band calls Dog Funk.

A leap-day debut. Six songs written, produced, played and mixed by Joey, opening with “Magenta.”
falseteethcleveland.bandcamp.com is born. Genre field: Dog Funk. It has never said anything else.
“false teeth day,” “stars” and a stack of demos pile up between records. They'd finally surface in 2026.
A full set taped in Cleveland by Seth Bennett and The Room, released that April as a live album and a concert film.
Joey stops by the studio with an album still unfinished. The engineer's gear had gone into storage; Joey chose to wait rather than start over.
The debut LP, more than two years in the making. Ten songs, hand-dubbed CDs signed by Mr. Teeth.
Billed as “False Teeth & the Dog Funk All-Stars,” with Solon, Kid Primitive and Yes Dear.
Sam joins on drums out of Stonebridge. A basement session gets taped on August 8.
First new music since the album, and the first single from the EP. Jangle pop that drifts into slowcore.
Panza stage, 9 p.m. Redemption for the rainy 3 p.m. slot a couple of years earlier, when the drummer finished the set on a broken stick.
Supporting Warmduscher on the 3rd and JW Francis on the 13th. The scraps compilation drops on the 14th. LoCLE Grown Ep. 157 airs on the 25th.
Second single, DFH005. The pheasant cover.
Four tracks, picked from six. That night: a release show at 32 Mound St in Athens, Ohio, with Space Kid and Guy Music.
Show detailsPersonnel
Anybody who plays with False Teeth joins the All-Stars, and the All-Stars run on military rank. Joey is the General by default. Promotions are earned, apparently, by being willing to drive through the night to Chicago after a festival set.
They wear suits for every show. Outdoors, in August, in Cleveland. Our ancestors did it.
General
Vocals, guitar, songs
Writes the tunes. Signs the CDs as Mr. Teeth. Reportedly deleted Twitter from his phone for being too negative.
Captain
Bass
Fall plan: finally carve a pumpkin. Proposed cover-set concept: “Fly Like an Eagle,” eight times in a row.
Brigadier Lieutenant
Guitar
All about the fits. Keeps the pants and shirt on through summer shows and is ready to stop sweating. Verdict on the new Corporal: “It's deserved. He's a good dude.”
Corporal
Drums
Joined August 2026 out of Cleveland hard-rock band Stonebridge. Owns exactly one pair of shorts. The gong-sounding cymbal is his.
Enlistment office
Anybody who plays with False Teeth is in. We've loosened that to anybody who shows up. Put down your name and what you bring, and we'll cut your card. Rank is assigned by the General's office and is not up for discussion.
Cards are issued instantly. Suit required for all ranks.
“We just keep practicing. We've been practicing consistently and we're just sharpening the blade. The chemistry is good.”

Field notes · from the LoCLE Grown interview
Four tracks, picked from six near-finished songs because they were the most done and made the most sense together. They are not a concept record. One is grunge, almost like a Deftones type of song
; one is power pop, kind of Replacements-y
; “Believe Me” is jangle pop drifting into slowcore.
Mixes were already coming back from Leo when the interview was taped. Joey's read: I think the new music and whatever we record after this is just going to be our best work.
Joey's genre to nerd out on: Can, Neu!, rhythm first, long songs that let it ferment
. Under that, Curtis Mayfield and James Brown's rhythm sections. So here is a small drum machine loaded with the motorik beat he's talking about. Let it run a while.
Other names on the table: Joni Mitchell, Pavement, Todd Rundgren, Deftones, The Replacements.
The hosts give a scenario; first to yell “I got aux” plays the song.
The band's engagement-party game. Everyone brings a tall can nobody would choose on purpose, bags go in a pile, you draw blind, and you finish yours before you're allowed anything else. Joey proposed before the game started, on purpose.
Pick a bag.
“Fall ain't ready for me.”
Solon, Two Mile Moon, Stonebridge, Tough Loss, The Laughing Chimes, Kid Primitive, Domingo Kite, Grumpy Plum, People in the Daytime, and more. If you need to know about the Cleveland music, then you need to know.
Live
Joey told the new drummer to expect one or two shows a month. It's been closer to six. Athens, Cincinnati, Toledo, Buffalo, and a lot of nights at Mahall's. New dates land on Instagram first.
